Police seize 20 lakh in fake currency near Indo-Bangladesh border in Malda

Malda district police seized counterfeit currency worth 20 lakh rupees from the Kumbhira police outpost area, located near the India-Bangladesh border. The operation led to the discovery of counterfeit 500 and 200 rupee notes. Among the seized currency, 500 rupee notes were valued at 19 lakh rupees, and 200 rupee notes were valued at 1 lakh rupees. The counterfeit money was recovered after a search was conducted near the residence of Rubel Sheikh, a known criminal in the area. The raid was carried out following intelligence gathered through secret sources.

Rubel Sheikh, who was arrested during the operation, is known for his involvement in various criminal activities in the region. He has been under surveillance by law enforcement for his suspected role in illegal cross-border operations, including the circulation of counterfeit currency. Sheikh was apprehended in Khoslapara, where the police found the counterfeit notes hidden near his residence.
